Welcome to the TSR Institute!
Participants can earn up to 15 hours of professional development (clock hours or CPEs) if they attend the full conference. Certificates are awarded through TECPDS for each session.
At the TSR Institute, attendees will find diverse sessions for early childhood professionals currently working in the classroom, leading schools and centers, and supporting other professionals through coaching and training. We strive for a unique mix of sessions sharing the latest research and evidence-based practice, with hands-on sessions that provide strategies and tools to implement immediately.
The Science of Reading & Early Childhood: Time to Start Now!
Currently, the science of reading is making headlines nationwide and has become a major topic of discussion at state and local levels – with the primary focus being on the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices that improve children’s reading outcomes and ultimately maximize children’s academic and life-long success. However, the critical role of early childhood education is often overlooked in these conversations. Therefore, this keynote will address this gap by: (1) examining the science of reading and its relation to early childhood education; (2) discussing the essential role of language during the early childhood years; and (3) presenting key, research-based strategies that early childhood educators can implement to develop a strong language and early literacy foundation in the infants, toddlers and preschoolers that they serve.
The Life-Changing Benefits of Connecting Children with Nature
Dimensions Educational Research Foundation education specialists Kirsten Haugen and Heather Fox will highlight the life-changing benefits that can take place when children connect with nature on a daily basis. Learn about the current research documenting the need for and benefits of connecting young children with nature and the creation of outdoor spaces that work for children and adults, in a variety of settings.
Gritty Optimism: Finding Joy in Life-Giving Work
We serve in the profession that makes all others possible, and we get to do meaningful work every day. We provide feedback, engagement, and well-being, not for some or even all students, but for each child in our care. Our work leads to optimism that is not naïve, but instead is grounded in the reality of seeing children becoming who they were created to be. Early childhood educators set children on a trajectory that is essential to each community and in that work, there is life-giving joy. You will walk away from this session with at least three tools to bring more joy that will fuel the work you do each day.
